Sharing a scorecard safely

A TourLedger share link is a snapshot. The selected homes are written into the link itself, after the # sign. There is no copy on our server and no account that controls it.
What that means in practice
- Anyone with the link can read it. If it is forwarded, posted or synced to a shared device, the new holder can open it too.
- It is not encrypted. The contents are encoded so they fit in a link, which anyone with basic technical knowledge can decode.
- It cannot be revoked and does not expire. Because the data is inside the link, there is nothing to switch off later. Treat a sent link like a sent email.
- It is a snapshot. Edits you make afterwards are not included. Create a new link to send an update.
The part after # is handled by the browser and is not sent to the web server when the page is requested. It can still end up in your browser history, in chat app previews and anywhere you paste it.
What is included
| Item | Included |
|---|---|
| Home nicknames and visit dates | Always, for the homes you select |
| Scores, must-have results, criteria names and importance levels | Always |
| Notes | Only if you tick “Include notes” |
| Addresses | Only if you tick “Include addresses” |
Nicknames are always included, so avoid putting a street address or a seller’s name into a nickname if you plan to share it.
Length limit
Links longer than 4,000 characters are refused, because many chat and email apps cut long links, which would leave a broken link. If you hit the limit, select fewer homes or leave notes out. For everything at once, use a backup file.
What happens when someone opens the link
They see a read-only comparison. Nothing is saved on their device unless they choose “Add these homes to my ledger”. Adding creates copies next to their own homes; it never replaces or edits what they already have.
Backup files
A backup file holds your whole ledger, notes and addresses included. It is a plain JSON text file, not encrypted. Send it only through a channel you trust, and delete it from shared folders when you are done.
